Millwood
Millwood is a charming village known for its beautiful farms and estates. For a glimpse into these grand homes, take a guided tour of Long Branch House and Farm, a 200 year old mansion and art gallery. Enjoy a stroll or a picnic on the 400 acre pristine and preserved grounds that also houses retired horses and hosts weddings and events.
Burwell-Morgan Mill
Another favorite, is the Burwell-Morgan Mill, a beautifully restored 18th-century mill, with grinding demonstrations on Saturdays at 11 a.m. from May through November. The Clarke County Historical Association frequently hosts historical reenactments and events at the Mill, making Millwood a delightful destination for history buffs and those looking for a peaceful, picturesque day out. Burwell-Morgan Mill has an enchanting, park-like setting with weeping willows and a small stream. Making it a perfect picnic spot.
Locke Store & The Buttery
Across the street from the Mill is Locke’s Store, a gourmet country market open 7 days a week that has been serving the community since 1836. Famous for its selection of Virginia wines, delicious deli sandwiches, and homemade desserts, it’s the perfect place to grab lunch or dinner to-go. Right next door is The Buttery, a cozy cabin (and back patio) to sip and savor farm-to-table fare and brunches over the weekend. Just down the road, stop in and find a treasure at the Red Schoolhouse Antiques.
